The Duluth (Minn.) Fire Department’s primary response area includes 26 square miles of water, including portions of Lake Superior. Ice forms on lakes and streams in late November and remains there until in early May. The ice-covered lake is used for recreation, including ice fishing, snowmobiling, hockey and even camping.
