Orcutt Fire Department Closes

The Orcutt (Calif.) Volunteer Fire Depart has closed after 80 years and merged into the Santa Barbara County Fire Protection District. The Orcutt district covered a 344-acre area. According to the Lompoc Record, county fire officials moved into the Old Orcutt fire station from the Santa Maria Public Airport fire station after the departments merged, and the Santa Maria Fire Department has taken over the airport fire station.

An American Medical Response ambulance is expected to be delivered to the airport within a couple of months to provide paramedic coverage to the southern part of the city. The city fire department has hired four new ARFF specialists who will take over the airport fire services.
