Volunteer Department Sells Naming Rights for Expansion
The Marshall Township (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Department is trying to raise $1.6 million for an expansion by selling the naming rights to a fire station and its trucks, as well as paving bricks, trees, benches and more. The money raised will go toward expanding the main fire station in the Warrendale section of the township. Contractors already broke ground on the fire station, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. After building started, however, the department realized that the $1 million budgeted for the project would not cover building costs. The newly expanded fire station will include four truck bays instead of two, a new radio room, meeting room and office space, in addition to a small kitchen and lounge area for the firefighters.
In addition to selling naming rights, the fire department will use a portion of the money raised to fund the expansion and also will hold fundraisers and apply for a $200,000 low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and seek grants.
