Benjamin Franklin left behind a huge legacy of written material and encouraged writers to “go on record” as to their beliefs, their observations, and their support of both public and private initiatives. Unfortunately, in spite of all of these efforts, there is no national writer’s award that recognizes the relationship between Ben Franklin and fire protection.

The National Fire Heritage Center has changed that with the creation of the Ben Franklin Fire Writers Award. There are several award categories, and three levels of prizes will be awarded in each category.

Entries will be accepted through April 17 — the anniversary of Ben Franklin’s death. Visit the National Fire Heritage Center's website and click on “Benjamin Franklin Fire Writers Award” for additional information and application form.
