Hose Management System

This battery-operated unit allows one person to drain, roll and safely load large-diameter hose. Designed by a Wisconsin career firefighter in 2003, the hose roller is quick and prevents back strain injuries from lifting hose. The system can handle 3-, 4- and 5-inch hose. Extinguisher Recliner

Available in microfiber or leather, this reclining arm chain is built with a seven-gauge steel frame and mechanism, integrated arms bolted to interior steel frame, and a kick-down release mechanism. The wall-saver design requires only a 10-inch clearance. Freight is free anywhere in the continental United States. Bulldogg, www.bulldoggtuff.com

Seatbelt Monitor

This seatbelt monitor allows the driver and officer to quickly see if firefighters are seated and buckled-up before moving the vehicle. The system also detects if the correct sitting and buckle sequence was followed for all seats. The system displays vehicle speed and lateral G-force to monitor increasing side forces as the vehicle corners or operates on a slope. Data collected by the system are date- and time-stamped and are downloadable via USB port. Fire Research Corp., www.fireresearch.com

AccuMax Rapid Deployment Foam System

AccuMax RDFS is a high-flow mobile proportioning delivery system for industrial-strength fires. The self-contained system delivers high-flow, Class B flammable-liquid foam fire protection for high-rise bulk-fuel storage; airfields, sea ports; and ethanol processing, transportation and storage facilities. Ethanol's increasing popularity and associated risks require an alcohol-resistant concentrate proportioned at 3% or 6% to be effective. FoamPro, www.foampro.com

Defender Visor

The new Defender Visor for Cairns 1010 and 1044 traditional helmets is a retractable eyewear system that offers protection from dust, dirt and grit. Sleek construction allows fast, easy raising and lowering of the visor even with gloved hands. Available with a new helmet or as user-upgrade kit, the system features a quick-disconnect for lens change-out without the use of tools. Optically correct lens eliminates peripheral distortion, and standard clear and amber Tuffshield visor options are NFPA-compliant. MSA, www.msafire.com

Composite Fire Truck Bodies

Airplanes made of composite materials are becoming more popular because the material is strong and can be molded in one piece rather than in welded parts. European fire and emergency vehicles also have been produced for years with similar composite bodies, which are durable, corrosion-proof and maintenance-free. The glass-fiber material, sometimes in combination with foam cores, is injected with resin and cured. Plastisol, www.plastisol.com

Warrior SCBA

Built with features suggested by firefighters, the Warrior is designed to reduce firefighter fatigue and stress with an Air-Pod backpack that allows for movement and weight distribution, offering up to 30% greater mobility and maneuverability. The unit's integrated design also prevents hazardous objects from getting caught on an SCBA. Two unique communication systems offer clear, distortion-free, push-to-talk or hands-free communication. Emergency Responder Reply System

The Emergency Responder Reply System was voted the best new product at the 2007 Pittsburgh FireRescue and EMS Expo. When paged, firefighters speed-dial one number on their phones to enter their names into the system. Any online computer can connect to the system to find out who is responding to an incident. Other features include outbound text messages with schedule or training reminders. The system requires an annual subscription rate per agency, but updates are provided at no charge. PyroLance Fireghting Nozzle

This firefighting system offers firefighter safety by offensively attacking fire and fire gases from a defensive position. The system uses a combination of high-pressure water and a proprietary non-sparking, abrasive material to pierce exterior structures and then blanket the thermal layers inside with a fog of atomized water. The fine mist rapidly reduces the temperature without introducing large amounts of oxygen, reducing the likelihood of flashover or backdraft. The system doesn't replace aggressive, interior-offensive firefighting tactics; it complements them. Pyrolance, www.pyrolance.com
