Seatbelt Monitor
This seatbelt monitor allows the driver and officer to quickly see if firefighters are seated and buckled-up before moving the vehicle. The system also detects if the correct sitting and buckle sequence was followed for all seats. The system displays vehicle speed and lateral G-force to monitor increasing side forces as the vehicle corners or operates on a slope. Data collected by the system are date- and time-stamped and are downloadable via USB port. Fire Research Corp., www.fireresearch.com

Composite Fire Truck Bodies
Airplanes made of composite materials are becoming more popular because the material is strong and can be molded in one piece rather than in welded parts. European fire and emergency vehicles also have been produced for years with similar composite bodies, which are durable, corrosion-proof and maintenance-free. The glass-fiber material, sometimes in combination with foam cores, is injected with resin and cured. Plastisol, www.plastisol.com

Emergency Responder Reply System
The Emergency Responder Reply System was voted the best new product at the 2007 Pittsburgh FireRescue and EMS Expo. When paged, firefighters speed-dial one number on their phones to enter their names into the system. Any online computer can connect to the system to find out who is responding to an incident. Other features include outbound text messages with schedule or training reminders. The system requires an annual subscription rate per agency, but updates are provided at no charge. PyroLance Fireghting Nozzle
This firefighting system offers firefighter safety by offensively attacking fire and fire gases from a defensive position. The system uses a combination of high-pressure water and a proprietary non-sparking, abrasive material to pierce exterior structures and then blanket the thermal layers inside with a fog of atomized water. The fine mist rapidly reduces the temperature without introducing large amounts of oxygen, reducing the likelihood of flashover or backdraft. The system doesn't replace aggressive, interior-offensive firefighting tactics; it complements them. Pyrolance, www.pyrolance.com
