Pierce Manufacturing and Harley-Davidson raised $135,000 through their Full Throttle Support campaign to assist the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. As part of the campaign, the companies held a sweepstakes for a one-of-a-kind Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Firefighter Special Edition motorcycle; Brian P. Vickers of the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department in Houston was the winner.
Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School of Dayton, Ohio, has purchased six seats of Flame-Sim software for use in its fire services vocational program. Dunbar is the first public high school to use the software.
MSA has awarded the Coral Springs (Fla.) Fire Department with its FireSlayer of the Year award. Lt. Scott Nathanson, lead paramedic Alden Prince, driver/engineer Daniel Doherty, firefighter/paramedic John Barry and firefighter/paramedic David Tyrrell were honored for their rescue actions during an apartment fire. MSA also has donated $5,000 to the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Burn Foundation.
Akron Brass has named David Durstine vice president of marketing. Jeff Benson and Jason Riggenbach have been appointed to global product line managers, while Randy Tharp and Phil Hodgdon will add to technical support. Rick Singer, vice president of North American Sales, will assume responsibilities for municipal sales.
