NIST Site Tracks WTC Recommendations
The Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology has implemented a Web site that allows the public to track the status of the agency’s recommendations stemming from its building and fire-safety investigation of the World Trade Center disaster.
The Web site lists each of the NIST recommendations, the specific organization or organizations (e.g., standards and code developers, professional groups, state and local authorities) responsible for implementation, the status of each recommendation’s implementation by the organization, and the plans or work in progress related to implementation of the recommendations. The status reports are current as of Jan. 31, 2006, and will be updated periodically.
A link titled "Implementation of NIST's Recommendations" on the NIST World Trade Center Web site takes the reader to a page with information on the implementation of the recommendations. Links are provided at the bottom of this page to the "List of Recommendations and Implementation Status" table and to the status of the National Institute of Building Sciences' effort to translate the recommendations into model building code provisions.
