Waterous, Elkhart, Phos-Chek Band for CAFS Academy
Three industry manufacturers jointly have develop the 2010 International Class A Foam and CAFS Academy, which will be held Feb. 18–20 in Glendale, Ariz.
Waterous Worldwide, Elkhart Brass and Phos-Chek/ICL-PPLP created the three-day academy, which will include classroom sessions, roundtable discussions and hands-on training exercises. Topics will follow four specific training tracks:
- Basic will cover the basic properties of Class A foam, including the history of Class A foam, how foam works, different types of finished foam products, theory, safety and hands-on tactics.
- Advanced will provide a quick review the basic of foam properties, concentrates, and aspirated and CAF characteristics then will cover nozzles, hose and flows; structural applications; vehicle fires, special applications and fire investigations; live fire 1 and 2; and wildland applications.
- Administrators/chiefs will cover the basic properties of Class A foam, foam concentrates; CAFS justification, budget and finance; internal and external customer buy-in; fire department CAFS instruction, foam SOGs; fireground applications for chiefs; writing specifications; and certification, testing, and fire investigation.
- Mechanics/technicians will cover basic class A foam properties and operations to give technicians an understanding of how foam works, why it is used, and the common operator errors. It also will cover proportioner types and components; CAFS types and components; foam system maintenance; proportioner/CAFS calibration and troubleshooting; writing specifications for foam systems/CAFS, and foam and CAFS retrofits.
