Fire Chief Ron Coleman (Ret.) and architect Rick Tripp offer insight and experience to volunteer departments on tight budgets. Based on research to identify the basic needs of volunteer fire departments, Coleman offers the critical components for an effective, economical department, with a plan for future growth.

South Metro Fire Rescue and Parker Fire Protection District merged to become the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority, the first two fully accredited fire departments to do so. This tour will cover one of South Metro*s newest fire stations and its Joint Services Facility. The facility, created and used by the Parker Fire Department, town government and the local school district, incorporates logistics, supplies and fleet services.
After 6:30 p.m.

In 1993, the town of Parker, Colo., built a joint-services facility to serve the Parker Fire District, the Douglas County School District and the town of Parker. This facility became even more important to the area when the Parker Fire District merged with the nearby South Metro Fire District to become the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority. This is the first time two fully accredited fire districts have merged.

This seminar will prepare an organized method for planning your facility from the site selection and site design to the final selection of interior furnishings and furniture. As these components or "kit-of parts" are reviewed, options will be presented that will give your department a functional environment for today*s operations as well as issues to consider for future flexibility. We will also discuss changes in service delivery that are having an impact on how these buildings are designed and constructed to serve your community now and in the future.

Do you need LEED certification to be green? The U.S. Green Building Council rolled out a new rating system in January that significantly changed the earlier system. Presenters will explain the basics of green building design and LEED as they relate to fire and rescue facilities and offer basic strategies to go green without significant financial impact.

It is also the most critical, as your facility location is key to your department*s ability to provide coverage. Avoid costly mistakes by learning criteria and strategies for selecting an ideal building site, including site attributes to look for, neighborhood impact and more.

Selecting construction materials for a new fire station requires products that are durable, easy to clean, require minimal maintenance, and can withstand the extended rigors of firefighter abuse. Vendor claims range from reasonable to preposterous 每 in detailing your station, you need to know crucial information: are the products as durable and easy to maintain as stated? Can you get replacement parts or support service from the vendor? Will the products stand the test of time? This seminar will show examples of what has worked and what hasn*t when it comes to building fire stations that will withstand the requirements of firefighter use.

Lessons learned from two experts who have seen what can go wrong and how to get your project back on track literally and figuratively. Every second spent practicing fire fighting skills and tactics counts. This workshop will focus on the fundamental process for incorporating simulated training exercises into your new construction and renovation projects thereby making tactical training convenient. Develop an awareness of how to take advantage of the building and site for training opportunities; explore commonly implemented training features; and understand the design process.

St. Bernard Parrish lost all 10 fire stations and its equipment after Hurricane Katrina bulldozed through Louisiana. The department has since designed and constructed 10 new stations to meet the challenges of new FEMA codes with sleeping rooms 5 feet above grade.
