The project includes renovation and expansion of/to an existing fire station to better house and support the operations, equipment, and personnel of the fire department, and to compliment the context, infrastructure, and security of the associated municipal complex.
Housed in an early 1980s Pueblo Revival-tyled Complex, also occupied by the police department, municipal court and city administration, the COB fire department was in need of a major expansion to meet the growing needs. The existing fire station was conserved, renovated, upgraded and, in some cases, assigned new uses.
As the center of operations, the apparatus bays were upgraded with state-of-the-art systems, given a face-lift including glazed bay doors, and was the logical point of propagation for the new expansion that includes:
Public. Lobby (vintage fire vehicle display), reception, community room, public parking;
Administration. Chief, deputy chief, fire marshal, plan room, staff offices/workstations, conference room, records, data/comm, mail, clerical work area, and library;
Crew. Day room, dining, kitchen, pantry, turnout, showers/toilets, exercise/recreation, 10 private sleeping quarters, study area, fire pole, patio, and secure parking.
