The Simmons Bedding Co. recently donated 275 Beautyrest mattresses to Atlanta Fire Rescue. The mattresses will be used in 30 stations.
The company made the donation because it believes firefighters need to be “robust, which means rested and recharged,” Simmons president Tony Smith. “We think it is important that you literally get the support you need,” support provided by firm mattresses.
Smith said Simmons is hoping to help first responders “recharge,” as part of the company's Recharge America charitable initiative.
“It's critical for fire and rescue professionals to be well-rested when, at a moment’s notice, they are called to respond to a life or death situation,” Smith said.
Simmons has done a handful of mattress makeovers in firehouses across the country, but Atlanta is the first citywide initiative.
“We chose to partner with the Atlanta Fire Foundation and outfit firehouses in the city because we are headquartered in Atlanta," Smith said. "This partnership married Simmons’ love and loyalty to our ‘hometown’ and our dedication to helping some of the most deserving individuals live life fully charged.”
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will use MRSA-resistant covers on the mattresses in accordance with department regulations.
