Wilson Offers Green Tips

There are a number things that can be done to help stations go green. Here are a few ideas from Jim Wilson Architects:

  • Replace conventional toilets with dual-flush or low-flow units and replace traditional urinals with waterless urinals.
  • Set up a "recycling center” and make sure that one person is accountable for managing the station's recycled waste.
  • Install solar panels or contract with alternative, renewable energy sources.
  • Remember that a light-colored roof is much more efficient than a dark one; it reflects the solar heat gain.
  • Plant native plants or plants that require little or no additional water. Grass lawns typically require a lot of water.
