Fire Chief Announces 2006 Station Style Awards
Results of FIRE CHIEF’s sixth annual Station Style Design Awards program, which recognizes outstanding architecture and design within fire departments nationwide, are now public. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded within each of five categories: volunteer departments, career departments, satellite stations, combined-use stations and renovated fire stations. All participating entries will be published in the November issue of FIRE CHIEF, and selected winners will be posted in the Station Style Special Report Section on www.firechief.com.
“This year’s entries raised the standard for fire and emergency facilities. Over the six years of the Station Style Awards, our winning stations have captured the changing role of fire departments across the country,” said Janet Wilmoth, editorial director of FIRE CHIEF magazine. “The increase in fire sprinklers in these buildings, multipurpose training rooms available to the community, the addition of fitness areas and growing environmental awareness all reflect future trends. These exciting facilities support the demand for quicker response times, the integration of diversity into stations and an added focus on firefighter safety.”
