UNIMAC'S PPE DRYING CABINET

UniMac's PEE drying cabinet builds on the company's commitment to firehouse laundries, offering a safe way to dry PPE and return it to service fast.

The cabinet uses a unique design to dry bunker gear gently. It forces heated air through hangers to dry bunker gear from the inside out. Air also is circulated through the cabinet's side panel, allowing it to move upward and around the outside of equipment. This unique, dual-side airflow delivers fast, efficient drying of both the inside and outside of gear. Because there is no tumble action, gear avoids excess wear.

To increase the efficiency of the unit and help departments keep operating costs down, air is recirculated.

The dryer comes with a user-friendly programmable control and simple push-button start, while removable hangers allow for easier handling. Optional racks enable departments to use the unit to dry boots and gloves.

When the PPE drying cabinet is combined with UniMac's UW model washer-extractor, departments have a total laundry solution and the versatility to help them meet NFPA 1851 standards. Unimac, www.unimac.com

BERGMANN ASSOCIATES & BIM DESIGN SERVICES

To maintain leading edge design capabilities in fire station and public safety design, the Bergmann Associates Emergency and Municipal Services studio uses a building information modeling CAD platform for the design of all its fire station projects. This technology allows the design team to “construct” the building in a single CAD file that is used by the entire design team. The single-file format permits realtime coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical disciplines, thereby highlighting possible conflicts for resolution during design instead of at the construction site. We'd welcome the opportunity to show you how our process would benefit you on your next project.

Bergmann Associates was established in 1980 and has grown to over 300 professionals serving the eastern United States from eight regional offices. Within the overall firm, the EMS Studio is comprised of architects, interior designers and engineers experienced in, and dedicated to, providing complete one-call responsibility to our fire and emergency services clients. Our award-winning designs are a tribute to our clients and the passion with which our people approach every project. Bergmann Associates, www.bergmannpc.com

HIGH TEMPERATURE LININGS' SYSTEM 203

System 203, America's number one burn room lining system, has an outstanding proven performance record of 18 years without replacement in over 120 installations and is manufactured and installed by High Temperature Linings.

Its unique interlocking refractory tile design with encapsulated insulating material shields and protects training structures from the hazardous environments associated with live-fire training. It is used successfully within Class A and Class B (or a combination of both) live-fire training environments.

System 203 is able to withstand repeated high temperatures and extreme thermal shock created during fire-extinguishment training evolutions preventing spalling, cracking, expansion or contraction. Our customers continue to tell us that System 203 out performs all other lining systems because of zero panel replacement allowing for continuous training, and therefore, no interruption or additional costs for maintenance, replacement or repair.

HTL also manufactures and installs burnpods/add-on burn rooms providing a unique solution for safe and realistic Class A fire training environments. Burnpods easily can be added to an existing structure and are ideal for older or metal structures.

HTL undertakes remodeling of existing training structures and can provide conceptual designs and detailed estimates for new building or restoration projects at no cost to the customer. High Temperature Linings, www.firetrain.com

DOOR ENGINEERING'S FOUR-FOLD DOORS

F-Series four-fold door systems from Door Engineering and Manufacturing of Kasota, Minn., are ideal for fire station applications. These door systems offer a combination of long service life and low maintenance while providing high-speed and high-cycle operation. Four-fold door systems are designed in standard sizes, but also can be customized for large openings and unique applications. The F-Series door panels fold completely clear of the opening in less than seven seconds and are visible by drivers during their entire operation, thereby eliminating costly damage to both the doors and vehicles.

The F-series four-fold door systems are available for use in hurricane zones. The FF700 has passed testing requirements for use in high velocity hurricane zones. The testing covers Miami/Dade County and Broward County in addition to the entire state of Florida. The FF700 is rated for up to 65-psf design pressure. The test protocol also included large missile impact testing. Door Engineering and Manufacturing, www.doorengineering.com

FIRE FACILITIES' WESTEC INSULATION SYSTEM

Westec is an entirely new concept in burn-room insulation. It is a unique two-part system that protects your training tower two ways. Outside, a strong stainless-steel panel is tough enough to withstand the most strenuous training exercises. Inside, a Westec Insulation Blanket protects your tower from extreme temperatures during training.

Westec's rugged stainless-steel panel offers a solid shield of protection. These rigid ribbed panels resist breaking, spalling, and cracking. This durability will significantly reduce maintenance costs and downtime.

The stainless steel panel is attached to a series of insulated steel channels. Under intense burn-room heat, these specially designed channels flex, allowing panels to expand freely, without warping, to maintain system integrity.

Inside the system is a specially installed Westec blanket, which provides a complete thermal break, the first of its kind! It won't burn, singe or break down even under the hottest conditions (blanket is stable up to 2,300°F). It provides the highest level of thermal protection for your tower.

The Westec burn-room insulation is the best system available for protecting your training structure. It reduces burn-room maintenance costs, extends the life of the tower, and protects your investment. Westec is available in all new Fire Facilities training towers as well as a retrofit for existing buildings, whether steel, concrete or masonry. Fire Facilities Inc., www.firefacilities.com

WARD DIESEL'S NO SMOKE SYSTEM

Put the health and safety of your firefighters first with the No Smoke exhaust-removal system from Ward Diesel Filter Systems. No Smoke is an apparatus-mounted, direct-source capture system that works automatically and also meets and exceeds OSHA, NIOSH and NFPA standards for firehouse air quality.

When seconds matter, No Smoke is ready. As soon as the driver turns on the engine, No Smoke's electronic control module automatically engages the diverter unit, which directs the diesel exhaust from the vehicle's exhaust system into the No Smoke system, where the diesel particulates are trapped in the ceramic filter.

For up to 99 seconds, enough time for the vehicle to exit the bay, only filtered, soot-free exhaust is released into the air, eliminating all risk of diesel soot inhalation and contamination. No Smoke also kicks into action when the driver backs into the bay.

In addition, an optional manual override switch allows the driver to activate the No Smoke system as needed, offering added protection during pump checks in the firehouse, emergency room stops, on-scene pump operations and at community events.

The new No Smoke 2 high-performance substrate with proprietary wash coat removes gaseous matter on 2007 model engines and beyond. Ward Diesel, www.warddiesel.com

CONTINENTAL GIRBAU'S WASHER-EXTRACTORS

Continental freestanding washer-extractors, in 20- to 255-pound capacities, properly clean turnout gear, removing contaminants while preserving fabric integrity. They offer the flexibility of a freestanding design so machines can be installed — without bolts and concrete foundations — in unconventional locations like truck bays with in-floor heat.

Superior programmability means Continental washer-extractors make it easy for fire departments to clean gear according to NFPA 1851 standards and manufacturers' guidelines. The highly programmable control ensures water temperature, extract speed, cleaning chemicals, fill levels, cycle time, and the number of baths and rinses are perfectly suited to the items being cleaned. So no matter what's in the wash — EMS jumpsuits, truck towels or turnout gear shells or liners — it's cleaned properly every time.

Continental freestanding washer-extractors qualify for grant dollars from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and are a green alternative to most rigid-mount industrial and home-style washers.

Continental Girbau is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
