Firefighters Agree to Cameras in Station
Fifteen surveillance cameras will be placed in a Stamford, Conn., fire station. According to the Stamford Advocate, the city and firefighters union reached an agreement over the disputed cameras, keeping 15 but not installing two that would have been placed in the firefighters' living quarters and the hallway outside the living quarters. The union filed a grievance when the installation was announced in January. Springdale Fire Chief Shawn Fahan said the cameras were intended to protect firefighters after incidents of vandalism and theft.
Brendan Keatley, president of the Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association, told the paper he did not dispute the right of the department to have the cameras in the station, but objected to their locations. "Everybody came out with an agreement that was fair and equitable," Keatley said.
Since the cameras were installed, there have been no incidents of vandalism or theft, said Fahan.
