The Van Buren Township (Mich.) Fire Department responded to a fire in a multiple-family dwelling. The first-arriving companies found heavy fire going through the roof of the apartment building. The fire spread to the adjacent units, forcing several families out of their homes.
The Red Cross was requested to aid the displaced families. The department chaplin, a police detective, and the state fire marshal also were called to the scene. The Romulus and Belleville fire departments provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
