Training programs now available for rescuers
The National Audiovisual Center at the National Technical Information Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce offers more than 9,000 titles covering every conceivable subject, with a focus on training programs for firefighting, law enforcement, and occupational safety and health.
Sample titles include "Managing Company Tactical Operations," "Basic Life Support," "Hazardous Materials Support," "Arson Detection for the First Responder," "Emergency Response to Terrorism," and "Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Curriculum." Management and education programs are also well represented.
"We have servsed U.S. fire and rescue units' training needs for years," said Janice Coe, nac manager and filmmaker, "but we aren't as well known as we should be. One of the things I want to do is bring nac to the attention of firefighters and rescuers worldwide. We have such a fantastic array of award-winning training materials to offer the fire and rescue community."
