About $7 billion will be allocated to the build out of a nationwide, broadband public safety network after legislation passed earlier this year approved the allocation of funds. The network will be dedicated solely to public-safety agencies and, as a result, will change the way such agencies communicate with each other and with the public. To learn more about how it will affect the fire service, Senior Editor Mary Rose Roberts spoke with Gregg Riddle, president of APCO. Riddles debunks the misconceptions about the network’s effect on LMR; explains how it lets agencies share data; and offers examples on how it will change the way fire dispatch sends and receives data.
