Motorola Solutions and GearGrid donated equipment and accessories to the Heart of Pines (Texas) Volunteer Fire Department as part of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Motorola Solutions donated 22 APX7000XE radios, accessories and programming.
The department also received a donation from GearGrid, which provided several storage products, including nine, three-pack mobile locker systems. The lockers have different hangers for jackets, helmets, boots, gloves and more — all of which also were donated by the company. GearGrid also provided its mini-mobile hose and SCBA bottle storage system.
Last September, the largest wildfire in Texas history hit Bastrop County and destroyed the Heart of the Pines Volunteer station. What began as a small wildfire in the area quickly raged out of control fueled by high, shifting winds and record draught conditions to become a wildfire that consumed more than 34,000 acres. Heart of Pines Volunteer Fire Department, along with countless local and national firefighters, fought the flames day and night; many of their own homes were destroyed.
On Dec. 3, ABC aired the episode of Extreme Makeover-Home Edition in which the TV show’s team rebuilt the station, which included new equipment from vendors like Motorola.
