Grant Funds Statewide First Responder Network
PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning on Wednesday announced a $1.7-million
grant from the New Hampshire Department of Justice to install a
statewide first responder training and communication network, “Homeland
One.”
The network will be deployed at 607 sites across the state of New
Hampshire. The sites were selected by the New Hampshire Department of
Justice and include law enforcement, fire and emergency medical
services agencies.
“Through this effort we hope to enhance the level of training
across New Hampshire and, at the same time, lessen the burden that
training often carries with it for the first responder,” said New
Hampshire Attorney General Peter W. Heed. “This is especially
true in the northern regions of New Hampshire, where training content
is often limited and traveling to access it can be both time consuming
and costly.”
Modeled on National Interagency Incident Management Systems, Homeland
One’s customizable training modules are based on the Department
of Homeland Security’s Office for Domestic Preparedness First
Responder Training Guidelines and Standardized Emergency Management
System standards. “PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning is the only
company to have taken the guidelines provided by the ODP and turned
them into a complete Weapons of Mass Destruction curriculum that is
being provided to the state of New Hampshire through Homeland
One,” said Bryan Mossey, vice president of Homeland One.
In addition to receiving state-of-the art modular Homeland Security
training, the Homeland One First Responder Network will be used to
brief first responders in times of emergency. New Hampshire receives
four hours of broadcast time over the network each month that can be
used for incident response, command briefing or to coordinate resources
across the state. New Hampshire is also the first state in the nation
to be able to receive statewide secure communications directly from the
Department of Homeland Security, which launched a similar network with
PRIMEDIA more than five years ago through Customs and Border Protection
and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Governor Craig Benson and U.S. Senator Jud Gregg are to be
commended for their outstanding leadership and homeland security vision
for protecting the state and establishing a training and communications
network that meets federal guidelines,” said Mossey.
“For more than a decade, we have invested heavily in a secure,
content-rich training and communications platform. Since 2000, we have
been integrating our capabilities to create a solution that now enables
New Hampshire to interconnect and consistently train all first
responders in a way that will save lives,” said Dave Ellett, CEO
of PRIMEDIA Workplace Learning.
