Welcome to Road to FRI, a podcast series from the International Association of Fire Chiefs and FIRE CHIEF that offers sneak-peeks at select Chief Officer Seminars that will be offered on Aug. 24 during Fire-Rescue International in Atlanta.
During the seminars, presenter Ken Byers will host a session dubbed, "The Energy Bus." The session explains how to motivate firehouse staff in order to increase productivity using proven strategies from his nearly 29 years with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
Currently an assistant chief and shift commander in field operations, Byers has achieved all ranks within the AFRD, including FAO, lieutenant, captain and battalion chief. He has worked in airport operations and at the Atlanta Fire Rescue Training Academy, and served as captain of Squad 4, a unit responsible for hazmat and technical-rescue incidents.
Byers joined FIRE CHIEF Associate Editor Mary Rose Roberts to discuss his presentation, including how to keep the big picture vision while taking focused action in order to get the most out of people.
