Sharonville (Ohio) Fire Department Chief Dale Duermit has received the 2006 Ohio Fire Service Distinguished Fire Service Award. The award recognizes Duermit's leadership in the fire service at the local, state and national levels; his 10 years as a member of the Ohio Fire Commission; and for his 52 years of dedicated service as a firefighter in Sharonville. Duermit served as assistant chief of the Sharonville Fire Department from 1959 to 1984. Chief Michael Norris is leaving his post at the Loma Linda (Calif.) Fire Department after less than two years for a lower-ranking position in a Riverside County city. Norris last day is Oct. 8. He begins his new job as a battalion chief in the Norco Fire Department the next day. Norris, 51, was hired by the city in December 2004 but was unable to accomplish some of his top priorities, including building a second fire station and restructuring the firefighter-apprentice program.
