Sharonville (Ohio) Fire Department Chief Dale Duermit has received the 2006 Ohio Fire Service Distinguished Fire Service Award. The award recognizes Duermit's leadership in the fire service at the local, state and national levels; his 10 years as a member of the Ohio Fire Commission; and for his 52 years of dedicated service as a firefighter in Sharonville. Duermit served as assistant chief of the Sharonville Fire Department from 1959 to 1984. In 1984 he was appointed chief and has held the position since.… By unanimous vote of the Pinellas Suncoast (Fla.) Fire and Rescue District Board of Fire Commissioners, Russell Livernois has been appointed fire chief. He replaces Chief John R. Leahy Jr., who retired following knee replacement surgery. Livernois is a 25-year veteran of the fire district, where he began as a volunteer firefighter and worked his way through the ranks of lieutenant, district chief for training, assistant chief of operations and acting chief…. The Orlando City Council has approved the appointment of Orlando (Fla.) Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jim Reynolds to the post of fire chief. Reynolds, 43, succeeds Robert Bowman, who recently resigned…. Chief Michael Dunn retired on Sept. 28 from the Albany (N.Y.) Fire Department. He had been with the department for 31 years, the last five as its chief.… Chicago Heights (Ill.) Fire Department Chief Will Chapleau is stepping down. He has accepted a job at the American College of Surgeons in Chicago, where as manager of the Advanced Trauma Life Support program, Chapleau will continue international training programs he developed while teaching at Prairie State College, before he became Chicago Heights' chief in January 2001…. Chief Michael Norris is leaving his post at the Loma Linda (Calif.) Fire Department after less than two years for a lower-ranking position in a Riverside County city. Norris last day is Oct. 8. He begins his new job as a battalion chief in the Norco Fire Department the next day. Norris, 51, was hired by the city in December 2004 but was unable to accomplish some of his top priorities, including building a second fire station and restructuring the firefighter-apprentice program.
