The Sacramento (Calif.) Fire Department promoted Deputy Chief Ray Jones to fire chief effective Jan. 5, 2008. He will continue to work closely with current Fire Chief Forrest Adams.
Jones has been a member of the Sacramento Fire Department for over 21 years. He rose through the ranks on the suppression side of the organization. He is currently the deputy chief of administrative services which oversees training, fire prevention, and fire communications. He was the assistant chief in charge of the EMS division and served as a hazmat specialist.
City Manager Ray Kerridge said he recruited from within the Sacramento Fire Department because of the strong management team he had to draw from.
