One Chief Retires, Two are Hired

Chief Jesse Gregson retires after a 31-year career; Brent Saunders becomes the first full-time chief of the O'Fallon Volunteer Fire Department; Burney Baskett is the next fire chief of South Padre Island, Tex.

The 31-year career of fire chief Jesse Gregson will end April 30 when he officially retires from the Bay Minette (Ala.) fire department. Gregson became captain in 1995, assistant chief in 1997 and chief in 2005. He was honored by a House of Representatives proclamation.

O'Fallon Volunteer Fire Department fire chief Brent Saunders has become Belleville's (Ill.) first full-time fire chief, reports the "Belleville News-Democrat." He has served the city's volunteer fire department for 25 years and been chief for four. A volunteer fire department always has served Belleville. A consulting firm recommended the installation of a full-time chief to help handle administrative, financial and legal issues.

Burney Baskett is the next fire chief of South Padre Island (Tex.) Baskett has over 28 years of experience in the Texas Fire Service, the last six of which were spent as chief of Hillsboro Fire/Rescue. He will assume the post May 5.
