Paulison Denies Resignation Rumors

FEMA Administrator R. David Paulison has denied reports that he plans to resign before the end on President Bush's term on Jan. 20.

"Let me be clear: I have no plans to leave at this time, and am committed to moving FEMA's mission forward," Paulison said.

Paulison was speaking at the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando when he told told reporters, among other things, that it was time to spend more time. Paulison later said that his remarks “must have been misunderstood.”

"It is a fact that I serve President Bush, and therefore my service will end when we move into the next administration," he said. "However, I can assure you that this announcement is not imminent. I have no job offers and have no plans to leave FEMA at this time."

Paulison went on to criticize the media. "Reports like this undermine our efforts to improve the morale of our employees and hinder our efforts to rebuild this organization," he said.
