NFFF Holds Contest
The National Fallen FireFighter's Everyone Goes Home initiative launched the Save a Life, Tell the Story contest to promote best practices in fire safety prevention and education. Sponsored by Kidde, the contest runs through Nov. 27 and encourages fire departments to submit life-save stories that resulted from their fire-safety education efforts.
"Because the best way to prevent home fires is through fire-safety education and awareness, we felt it was important to recognize fire departments that have implemented creative fire-safety educational outreach in their communities, and to reward those efforts through our Save a Life, Tell the Story contest," said Ron Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF. "This also will give us a compilation of best practices for public education that will help more fire departments save lives."
The NFFF will choose a panel of independent judges from the fire-safety industry to review each entry and select five winners. The judges will base their results on the creativity of the educational outreach that resulted in the life save, as well as the number of people impacted. Each winner will receive 200 Kidde smoke alarms and a VIP package to the 2009 Congressional Fire Services Institute dinner in Washington, D.C.
Winners will be announced in mid-December. For more information or to enter the Save a Life, Tell the Story contest, visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=2VHabRjRN1CvDHPb3ctgPQ_3d_3d.
