NFA Starts Internship Program

The United States Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy has created a college internship program for those interested in a career in the fire and emergency services. Students accepted into the program will work at the U. S. Fire Administration in Emmitsburg, Md., assisting in the development and maintenance of course and curriculum materials, conduct basic research and summarize information from office files and other sources, and perform basic editing and review of the training materials to assure they reflect current practices.

These interns will conduct supervised research and receive experience with arson and fire investigation, executive development, management science, training program aanagement, hazardous materials, planning and information management, emergency medical services and safety, public fire education, fire prevention management, fire protection systems and equipment, and incident management. Students accepted into the program receive campus housing and be able to attend up to two NFA courses.

Students will work full-time with training specialists, instructional systems specialists and other USFA staff. They also will participate in weekly meetings with staff and projects as needed. Applicants must be enrolled as a student at a regionally accredited institution in the United States and have sophomore or junior status, have completed introductory courses in a field related to fire and emergency services, maintain a 3.0 GPA in the discipline and demonstrate an interest in training and education and a career in the fire and emergency services or allied disciplines.
