Delray Beach (Fla.) Fire-Rescue has reopened of the newly rebuilt Station 4. The facility is scheduled to be operational in later this month and a grand reopening ceremony will be held on Dec. 6. Station 4 was forced to close in June 2007 due to structural damage from Hurricanes Francis, Jean and Wilma. While construction was in progress, staff responded to calls from a temporary facility located behind Barwick Road Baptist Church.
The station was demolished and rebuilt to meet current code standards and ordinances. Upgrades include energy efficient appliances, impact resistant windows and doors, a back-up generator and confined-space rescue training area for the hazmat team. The facility uses drive-through bays with emergency light activation.
