The World Firefighters Games 08, hosted by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service in Liverpool, England, saw more than 3,000 firefighters from more than 30 countries competing in events ranging from soccer and horse riding to tests of strength and fire service-specific tasks. The Press Association Newsfile reports that in the Toughest Firefighter Alive event will determine which emergency service worker with breathing apparatus can roll up a hose, carry an 176-pound dummy for 328 feet and climb the 550 steps up the Radio City Tower the fastest.
And just like the Olympics, winners are awarded medals and participants represent their countries.
The 10-day event runs until Sept. 2, will help raise money for good causes, including The Fire Fighters Charity.
