The Gazette-Times reports that Roy Emery has been named the fire chief of Corvallis, Ore. He was selected from more than 30 candidates from the United States and Canada, and had been the acting chief since March.
According to the paper, his starting salary will be about $102,700 per year. He will oversee 70 employees, about 40 volunteers, a $9 million budget. The department answers 3,500 calls per year. Emery has worked in the city of Corvallis Fire Department since 1983, including service as a lieutenant, battalion chief, and most recently as operations chief.
The paper says that Emery holds an associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, and is completing a masters degree in public administration. He holds certifications as fire officer, instructor, strike team leader, hazardous materials technician, swift-water technician, confined-space technician and EMT-paramedic.
