Retired Firefighter Starts Cancer Fund

The American Cancer Society is partnering with The Retired Professional Fire Fighters Cancer Fund, a new organization that will raise funds for cancer research. The Fund will primarily support research in the areas of lung, bladder, kidney, colorectal, testicular, brain, breast, leukemia, multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Retired Binghamton (N.Y.) Firefighter William H. Newland launched the organization earlier this year.

“The Retired Professional Fire Fighters Cancer Fund will raise funding for research for specific cancers which not only effect firefighters, but all of mankind,” Newland said. “As a retired professional firefighter and former union president, I know that firefighters have a long history of caring and giving. Together, we can make a significant difference by supporting research to develop better earlier detection methods, more successful treatment programs, and hopefully one day, a cure for all forms of cancer.”

The Retired Professional Fire Fighters Cancer Fund will focus fund-raising efforts on forming partnerships with active fire fighter unions, retired fire fighter organizations, trade organizations, businesses, and individuals.
