IAFC Apparatus Section Approves Name Change

The International Association of Fire Chiefs Apparatus Maintenance Section is changing its name to the Emergency Vehicle Management Section.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs Apparatus Maintenance Section is changing its name to the Emergency Vehicle Management Section. According to Chairman Don Henry, the new name more accurately reflects the activities of the section.

Section membership also approved by-law changes. Current Vice Chairman Mike Thorn will become chairman at the end of his term. Members also approved that voting for section directors will now be via a mailed ballot.

The new Emergency Vehicle Management Section also announced the creation of the Boyd Cole Memorial Educator Award. The award honors Boyd Cole, a longtime advocate and one of the founders of efforts to recognize and train emergency vehicle mechanics and technicians. The award will be presented to a person who has given outstanding support to EVTs as either trainer, educator or facilitator. The first award is scheduled to be presented at the next Apparatus Workshop, to be held Aug. 25–26, prior to the IAFC Fire-Rescue International conference in Chicago. More details will be announced shortly.
