Are you having trouble finding or retaining vehicle technicians? You're not alone.

The American Trucking Association predicts that together the automotive and trucking industries will require 600,000 new vehicle maintenance workers in the next four years. One problem appears to be that the image of a greasy mechanic isn't attracting new students to vocational schools. Many feel this image needs to be changed to reflect the experience and skills required by today's vehicle technician.

Some truck manufacturers and dealers have formed alliances with vocational schools, while others have worked to recognize and reward their current technicians through continuing education, skill certification and pay incentives.
