Chicago Chief Emergency Officer Cortez Trotter has resigned to take a position with James Lee Witt Associates as its vice president and director of Midwest operations. As the city's chief emergency officer, Trotter oversaw the long-range planning strategy for man-made and natural disasters. He coordinated preparedness, response and recovery activities for the Office of Emergency Management and Communications, Chicago Fire Department, Chicago Police Department, and Chicago Department of Public Health.… Chief Douglas Holton has left behind St. Paul, Minn., and that department's internal strife to be the next chief in his hometown of Milwaukee. Holton became St. Paul's fire chief in 2003 and had been on the Milwaukee department from 1978 to 2002.… Charles Douglas Bass has been named head of the Miami-Dade County (Fla.) Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Bass previously served as the director of the Office of Emergency Management in Fairfax County, Va.… Deputy Chief Steve Cover has been named interim chief of the Virginia Beach (Va.) Fire Department. Cover is a 27-year veteran of the fire department and was promoted to the rank of deputy chief in February 2006.… Rye, N.H., Fire Chief Richard O'Brien will be leaving his job at the end of June to head the Goffstown (N.H.) Fire Department.… Fire Chief Robert Garcia has retired after 20 years with the Gallup (N.M.) Fire Department. Capt. Robert Soto has been named the new chief.… Jeff Cash, chief of the Cherryville (N.C.) Fire Department, is one of the 100 semi-finalists for Energizer's “Keep Going Hall of Fame.” Cash has served as fire chief for more than 20 years.… John Eversole, the fire service's “Chief of Hazmat,” has died. A firefighter and member of the Chicago Fire Department for more than 30 years, Eversole served as the department's district chief of special operations before his retirement in 2001. He was a founding committee member of NFPA 472, Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents.… Chester (Ind.) Fire Department Asst. Chief Lamoine Nusbaumer, 59, died May 26 of asphyxiation due to ammonia exposure in a farming accident. He was a 29-year veteran of the fire department.… Longtime Winter Springs, Fla., Fire Chief Tim Lallathin died after a long battle with colon cancer. He was 49. Lallathin joined the Winter Springs Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in March 1974 and worked there full-time for more than 31 years before retiring May 4. He was promoted to chief in December 1991.… Seneca (N.Y.) Hose Fire Company No. 1 Chief Daniel B. Shanahan Jr. died in a highway collision June 3. Shanahan, 43, was driving to his job as a state corrections officer at the time of the accident.… Ann Stawski has been named vice president of marketing communications for Oshkosh Truck Corp.… Gary DeCosse has rejoined Road Rescue Inc. as its new president.
