Manufacturers offer service seminars
American LaFrance offers tuition-free service training for fire departments operating current-generation American LaFrance fire apparatus. Information about these courses is available at <www.americanlafrance.com>.
Emergency One offers maintenance training at their facility in Ocala, Fla.
Electrical 1: Nov. 5-9. Provides an overview of AC and DC electrical systems and components, power distribution systems, load management systems, harness identification and interface modules.
Hale Pump School: Nov. 6-8. Covers preventive maintenance and minor troubleshooting on Hale pumps, primer and valves with a special emphasis on their installation.
Electrical 2: Nov. 12-16 and Dec. 10-14. The emphasis of this class is understanding and troubleshooting the electronics found in load management systems, Detroit and Cummins engines, Wabco ABS/ATC, Telma retarders, PTO and pump interlocks and controls, and other components. Students must have attended the E-One Electrical 1 class or have an ASE/EVTCC electrical certificate.
Aerial 1: Nov. 12-16. Provides a basic introduction to the hydraulic and electrical systems and components of E-One aerial devices with an emphasis on preventive maintenance.
Aerial 2: Nov. 26-30. Covers maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of E-One aerial apparatus. The emphasis is on troubleshooting and repairs. Students must have attended the E-One Aerial 1 class or hold an EVT aerial certification.
Bronto Aerial: Dec. 3-7. This course offers basic maintenance and troubleshooting of Bronto aerial devices, including hydraulic and electrical systems.
Aerials (F5): Dec. 10-14. Provides a review of the topics covered in the EVT Certification Commission F5 exam on aerials. Students will have the opportunity to take the exam at the end of the class.

Pierce Manufacturing has several service training classes scheduled in the coming months. All classes are held in Appleton, Wis.
Chassis Electrical: Oct. 29-30. An introductory class covering the basic, non-multiplex Pierce electrical system including electronic engines, transmissions, pump pressure governors and anti-lock braking systems.
Aerial Maintenance: Dec. 13-14 and Feb. 21-22, 2002. This class covers the repair and maintenance of Pierce aerial ladders and platforms, including electrical and hydraulic systems and multiplex electrical components.
Chassis Multiplex: Jan. 10-11, 2002. A detailed class covering the Pierce multiplex electrical system and components. Participants should have a thorough understanding of truck electrical systems and a working knowledge of Windows 95/98.
