The city of Cherryville was in desperate need of a new headquarters facility that could house all their equipment and staff needs. With the help of Stewart Cooper Newell and financing provided by USDA Rural Development, this facility was completed in spring 2008. The four drive-through apparatus bays house all the equipment for the department while the six individual sleep rooms and individual toilet/shower facilities allow the department flexibility in accommodating staff of differing genders. The sleep rooms, kitchen, and day room areas have been arranged along a central corridor with direct access to the apparatus bays.
The offices in the front of the station provide good access for visiting public via the main lobby of the station. The library/conference room provide training opportunities and meeting space for smaller groups while the main training room provides adequate room and equipment for 50 to 60 people.
The site layout provides good access from two streets and allows separation of public vehicular traffic from the apparatus and staff vehicles. Large concrete aprons on the front and rear of the facility in addition to the concrete bypass drive allow room for visiting apparatus to park without blocking the traffic flow. The large patio and grilling area on the rear of the station provides staff with privacy.
