At their Aug. 27 meeting, the Commission on Fire Accreditation International board of trustees voted to accept the Commission for Chief Fire Officer Designation into the cfai trust.

The concept on which the new commission is predicated, while certainly not a new one, involves the designation of individual chief officers as having met a prescribed standard recognized by the international fire community. That concept took one more step toward becoming a reality when the board of trustees selected the members who will serve on the new commission.

The newly selected members are:

* Chief Peter Lucarelli, career department agency head;

* Chief Richard Marinucci, combination department agency head;

* Chief R. Dale Perry, volunteer department agency head;

* Chief Milford Fonza, diversity representative;

* F. Patrick Marlatt, academic representative;

* T. Kevin King, federal representative;

* Michael Letcher, International City/County Management Association;

* Chief William J. Hewitt, international representative; and

* Chief Vicki Murphy, member-at-large.

The scope of this commission is to implement the program created by the Chief Officer Professional Designation Task Force, which was formed by the Internation Association of Fire Chiefs and chaired by iafc past president Marinucci.
