NFA Rolls Out Juvenile Fire-setting Course

The National Fire Academy has announced a new one-week resident course designed to meet NFPA 1035, Juvenile Firesetting Intervention Professional Standard, part of the Public Fire and Life-Safety Educator 1035 standard. Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist I and II Leadership class dates are Oct. 2-7, 2005; March 12-17, 2006; June 25-30, 2006; and Aug. 20-25, 2006.

Two members of a jurisdiction must apply together. One student should be from the fire service with responsibilities related to juvenile fire-setting intervention, interviewing and prevention. The other student, from the same jurisdiction or community (state, county or local entity), should represent a local or regional juvenile fire-setter intervention coalition. Students could be members of law enforcement, arson investigators (police or fire service), mental health professionals, schools, children's hospitals or social services.
