Fire Chief's Suspension Lifted, Charges Dropped

Fannin County (Ga.) Fire Chief Larry Thomas returned to active service after battery chargers against him were dropped. According to the News Observer, the incident was a misunderstanding, Thomas apologized and the victim did not want to press charges.

Thomas met with sheriff George Ensley, the victim, commission chairman Howell Bruce Jr., county human resources director Janice Bailey and emergency management agency director Lonnie Oliver where it was decided to reinstate Thomas as chief. The victim also resumed work, having turned in his gear and quit the department after the incident.

Commission chairman Howell Bruce Jr. told the paper that the matter is considered closed and no disciplinary action will be taken, though he still is considering placing a letter of reprimand in Thomas' personnel file.
