9/11 First Responder Claims Multiplying

The New York Post reports that legal actions filed against the City of New York in connection with the events of Sept. 11, 2001, have tripled in the past year. More than 1,100 notices of claim, which potential plaintiffs are required to file before suing the city, were filed against the city during the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The New York Post reports that legal actions filed against the City of New York in connection with the events of Sept. 11, 2001, have tripled in the past year. More than 1,100 notices of claim, which potential plaintiffs are required to file before suing the city, were filed against the city during the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The number of lawsuits is up, as well. Plaintiffs filed more than 300 suits related to exposure to toxic substances at the World Trade Center site. Many are joining a class-action negligence suit in Manhattan federal court, alleging that the city failed to protect them from hazardous conditions at the site.

The Post says an attorney in the class-action suit confirms additional claims have been filed on behalf of sick police, firefighters and other responders who spent time at the WTC site in the aftermath of 9/11.
