USFA Debuts Chiefs' Corner Innovations

The U.S. Fire Administration has created the Chiefs' Corner, a spotlight on innovative fire prevention and safety programs by Fire Administrator R. David Paulison and Deputy Fire Administrator Charlie Dickinson. The first program highlighted is Mis Primeros Pasos, which addresses the frequency of Hispanic children hurt or killed by fire.

Mis Primeros Pasos is based on the National Fire Protection Association's Learn Not to Burn program, as adapted by the National Association of Hispanic Firefighters. The adaptation teaches eight key fire safety behaviors and includes a teacher's guide, lesson plans, original artwork and fire safety songs.

For more information on Chiefs' Corner, visit the USFA Web site at www.usfa.fema.gov. To order a copy of Mis Primeros Pasos, visit the NFPA Web site, www.nfpa.org.

Coming soon on the Web site will be a number of success stories and experiences being shared by firefighters returning from deployments to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. To submit future ideas, e-mail Thomas.Olshanski@dhs.gov.
