NVFC Names Fire Corps Director

The National Volunteer Fire Council has hired Shawn P. Stokes as the director of the new Fire Corps program. Stokes will lead the partnership between the NVFC, the IAFC's Volunteer and Combination Officers Section, the International Association of Fire Fighters and the White House.

The program's goal is to support and supplement volunteer, combination and career fire departments through the use of citizen advocates for non-operational activities. The program will educate departments on how to implement a program that uses citizens to assist with administrative functions and other activities.

A major element of the program is www.firecorps.org, where fire departments can register their programs and citizens can find interested fire departments.

For more information on Fire Corps, call 202-887-4809 or e-mail info@firecorps.org.
