Firefighter Denied Comp Claim

Assistant Fire Chief William Saxe, a Wilson (Blakely, Pa.) Fire Company volunteer firefighter who suffered a heart attack while on-scene at a fire was denied workers' compensation.

Assistant Fire Chief William Saxe, a Wilson (Pa.) Fire Company volunteer firefighter who suffered a heart attack while on-scene at a fire was denied workers' compensation, reports the Scranton Times Tribune. Saxe filed his claim through the borough, but the borough's insurance carrier, the State Wokrers' Insurance Fund, denied his claim. The insurance fund is managed by a state board consisting of Sandi Vito, secretary of the Department of Labor and Industry; Joel Ario, insurance commissioner; and Robin Wiessman, state treasurer. State Workers' Insurance Fund declined to comment on the claim.
