New Chief for Tucson

Patrick Kelly is the new fire chief of Tucson. According to the Arizona Daily Star, the former fire chief and emergency management coordinator for the city of DeLand, Fla., replaces Chief Dan Newburn, who retired Sept. 12. Randy Ogden will continue to serve as interim fire chief until Kelly takes command on Nov. 17.

Kelly has more than 30 years of experience in fire operations, emergency medical services, emergency management and fire management. He has served as chief of emergency services in Westchester County, N.Y., and he retired from the Baltimore County Fire Department in Maryland in 2000.

Kelly told the paper he wanted to work for a large fire department again after spending the last four years in DeLand, which has about 50 firefighters and employees, compared to Tucson's 740.
