USFA Offers EMS Pilot Course
The U.S. Fire Administration is conducting a pilot class at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Md., for its newly revised two-week course, "P150 - Management of Emergency Medical Services." The course will run from June 9-12.
The purpose of a pilot class is to assure that the materials are appropriate and accurate prior to replacing the old course in the normal course rotation. Students will be asked to provide feedback on the course throughout its delivery. Students will receive a National Fire Academy course completion certificate.
This course focuses on management practices as they relate to emergency medical services. This interactive and fast-moving course will enable participants to deal more effectively with day-to-day management issues that supervisory-level managers are likely to encounter. Personnel, resource management, research and quality improvement techniques are some of the major components of this course. Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to enhance the quality and overall effectiveness of their EMS operation through the use of management techniques.
The course is open to those with management responsibility for part of an EMS delivery system (a fire department, a hospital, or a public or private EMS agency). It is also open to those with decision-making responsibility within an EMS system (EMS council membership, EMS program management/coordination, training, medical control, etc.). The prerequisites are IS700 and IS800; ICS-100 and ICS-200 or equivalent.
Stipends for eligible students are available for attendance for this pilot course. Attendance at a pilot course does not prevent an eligible student from obtaining another stipend within the same fiscal year.
To apply, students must complete FEMA Form 75-5, General Admissions Application (available for download at: www.usfa.dhs.gov/nfa/about/attend/apply.shtm. Applications will be accepted until April 1, and should be submitted to: NETC Admissions Office, Building I, Room 216, 16825 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
