Orlando Names New Chief

The Orlando City Council has approved the appointment of Orlando (Fla.) Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jim Reynolds to the post of fire chief. Reynolds, 43, succeeds Robert Bowman, who recently resigned. Bowman had been chief since 2003, and previously from 1993 to 1996.

Reynolds, a third-generation Orlando firefighter, has been a member of the Orlando Fire Department for 22 years. He had been serving as deputy chief for the past three years.

“I’m confident that our highly-rated fire department is in extremely capable hands under the leadership of Chief Reynolds,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. The mayor also announced the promotion of two other members of the department. Asst. Chief Mark Oakes and Asst. Chief Rudy Johnson both will be promoted to the level of deputy chief, joining Deputy Chief Kathy Miller in leadership of the department.
