Grant Funds NFFF Firefighter Life Safety Resource Kit Program

A $329,000 grant from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. is making it possible for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to provide its Firefighter Life Safety Resource Kits to more than 30,000 U.S. fire departments. The kits anchor the NFFF “Everyone Goes Home” campaign and are designed to help reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths.

“Reducing firefighter deaths and injuries requires a daily commitment,” said NFFF Board Chairman Hal Bruno. “These educational kits are an important resource to enable fire departments to implement our 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives.”

The kits include a CD and two DVDs that provide resources fire departments can immediately put into action. The DVDs contain six modules that focus on specific areas involving line-of-duty deaths: vehicle operations, live fire training, fireground operations, and firefighter health and wellness. The program contains interviews with more than 50 nationally recognized fire service leaders. The kit — provided to fire departments at no charge — also includes PowerPoint presentations and instructor guides.

“These resource kits are a powerful educational tool and one that we believe will help immeasurably to further heighten awareness of firefighting safety procedures among firefighters across the country,” said Danielle Cagan, Fireman’s Fund director of community relations.

Launched in 2004, the “Everyone Goes Home” campaign was started with founding grants from the Fireman’s Fund Heritage program and the Department of Homeland Security. Fireman’s Fund also has provided matching grants to the NFFF for the National Firefighter Near-Miss Reporting System and for a component of the National Volunteer Fire Council’s Heart Healthy Initiative.
