Chapel Hill Fire Marshal Named Goldsboro Chief

Chapel Hill (N.C.) Fire Marshal Alvin Ward has been named chief of the Goldsboro (N.C.) Fire Department, effective Jan. 16, 2007. Ward has served as fire marshal in Chapel Hill since April 2006 and served as the training chief before that. He will be replacing longtime Goldsboro Fire Chief Bobby Greenfield, who will be retiring at the end of 2006.

Ward has been a member of the fire service for the past 20 years and is a certified fire instructor, fire inspector and fire investigator. He was selected as the North Carolina Fire Instructor of the Year in 2002 and helped set up Chapel Hill’s fire academy.

Ward is the third Chapel Hill Fire Department staff member in the last 18 months to be appointed to a fire chief position in another North Carolina community.
