Farmington Hills Honored by Fire Inspectors Society
The Farmington Hills Fire Department was recently honored by the Metro Detroit Fire Inspectors Society with the MDFIS’s Fire Inspector of the Year award.
The Farmington Hills Fire Prevention Bureau staff received the award collectively for their ongoing efforts to educate the public on fire prevention. The Fire Prevention Bureau hosts special events and presents community outreach programs to inform the public and the media on the dangers of fires.
Recent efforts by the Fire Prevention Bureau have included education on the prevention of holiday fires, a demonstration on the fire risks of turkey fryers, and a presentation on residential fire sprinklers. Every year, the Fire Prevention Bureau also makes regular visits to local classrooms to teach children about fire safety.
The Fire Prevention Division is headed by Fire Marshal Stephen Hume, a 30-year veteran of the Farmington Hills Fire Department, and administered by Fire Inspectors Dennis Hughes and Michael Kish. Members of the Fire Prevention Bureau received the award at a year-end gathering of the Southeast Michigan Fire Inspectors Society.
