IAWF Seeks Nominations for Ember Award
The International Association of Wildland Fire is accepting nominations for its annual Ember Award for Excellence in Wildland Fire Science. The award, which acknowledges sustained and excellent achievement in wildland fire science, will be presented at the Second Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference in Destin, Fla., March 27–30, 2007.
First given in 2006 (posthumously) to Dr. Frank Albini, the award was established to recognize innovative solutions to important wildland fire challenges, as well as effective and appropriate communication of wildland fire science and research results. Albini, a fire behavior scientist and theoretical wildland fire modeler at the Missoula Fire Sciences Lab, was perhaps best known for his model for predicting the rate of spread and intensity of crown fires.
To nominate an individual, send a copy of his or her curriculum vitae or résumé, a list of three or more individuals (with contact information) who may be contacted to affirm the importance of the nominee’s research contributions, and a brief statement justifying the nomination. Nominees of recently (since 2001) deceased individuals also will be accepted. Nominations should be submitted by Jan. 15, 2007, to:
Elizabeth Reinhardt
Harvard University Center for the Environment
24 Oxford Street, 3rd Floor
Cambridge, MA 02138
Nomination materials may be e-mailed to Reinhardt at ereinhardt@fs.fed.us.
